Shredded isn’t necessarily healthier than fluffy

Okay - we are talking in some super vague terms here I know. Let’s get down to business.

Between 10-20% body fat for men and 18-30% for women, health is generally the same. Below or above are not as healthy for long periods of time, buuuut don't feel like you're unhealthy if you're not shredded

Not only that - if you hold onto a little more weight, you get to eat more. That’s because every pound (whether fat or muscle) is metabolically active. This means that if you are a higher bodyweight, you’ll passively burn more calories. What up double cheeseburgers AND a chocolate shake?!

Eating more is great but it's so much more than that. There is a high cost to pay when you’re extremely lean - and it’s not just food. It’s sanity. It’s sacrifices. Now on the other hand, letting yourself be at a slightly higher body fat percentage might mean…focusing less on the diet, reducing frequency of tracking or maybe not doing it at all, getting dinner with friends, or drinks on the weekend. I’m talking in healthy ranges though - if you’re outside of the 10-20% body fat for men or 18-30% body fat for women, you might want to get into that range.

I know what you’re thinking - “But Alex, who on earth could help me do that?? Isn’t it hard to balance nutrition and exercise in a mathematical/scientific approach? I wish I could throw all my money at somebody.”

Have I talked to you guys about my personal training packages? Anyway…

Your bodyweight and shape should come down to feeling and preference. Do you feel healthier at a certain weight? What's your sleep like? Do you feel energetic?

It's okay to want to change your body. It's a good idea to try out a few different body shapes. Lose some body fat, gain some muscle, see how it feels. You don't know until you try it! Your body is your vehicle for all life's experiences - treat it well and you'll probably notice significant improvements in your day to day life.

And if you're worried about what other people will think if you decide to change your body - stop. The people who love you will continue to love and support you. The people who judge would've judged you for something else anyway. And we really don’t need those people in our lives.

Have a happy week. I hope the sun shines on you today and every day.
